Employment Opportunities

The City of Meriden Department of Personnel is under the leadership of Director Caroline Beitman.  The Director serves as the Secretary of the Municipal Pension Board, represents the City at arbitration and State Labor Board Hearings, and is advisor to department heads on disciplinary matters and legal issues related to employees.  The Personnel Director also serves as mediator of in-house issues to avoid more formal, costly procedures.  Click here to download a General Employment Application form for the City of Meriden.

Employment Opportunities

Librarian I - Part Time
  The Meriden Public Library seeks a 20 hour/week Librarian. Applicants must enjoy working with all ages, have excellent communication and computer skills, and knowledge of new technologies. Flexible schedule, some nights and weekends required. MLS from an ALA-accredited school or a Bachelor’s Degree supplemented by graduate level courses which will lead to the Master of Library Science Degree within two years of employment. Starting hourly rate is $20.70. Last date to apply is Friday, August 1, 2008. E.O.E.

Chemist - Water Pollution Control Facility
  this is responsible, technicial and professional work involving theoperation of a wast water laboratory at a Water Pollution Cntrol Facility. Must have a Class III Wastewater Operator License. A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university in chemistry, plus two years of experience as an analytical chemist, including one year in responsible charge involving waste water or environmental laboratory work or and equivalent combination of training and qualifing experience substituting on a year for year basis. $24.60 per hour. Draftsperson - Engineering
  This is responsible technical work in drafting City projects and creating water and sewer maps. Salary $20.47 per hour. Last date to apply Friday, August 8, 2008. E.O.E.

Health Aide
  This is entry level public health work in performing clerical and nursing assistance work in the public schools. Work involves responsibility for providing assistance to a public health nurse. Duties include maintaining files and records, scheduling appointments, serving as receptionist, filing, assisting ill or injured students, and assisting with medical screening tests under supervision. Salary $13.11 per hour, 25 hours per week 10 month school year. Last date to apply is Friday, August 1, 2008. E.O.E
