Special Services to Non-Public Schools
Services are provided by members of a multi-disciplinary team that works together to evaluate, recommend and implement appropriate educational placement for children requiring special services in the areas of social work services, speech/language therapy, English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and school psychology.
Three parochial schools receive these services: Mt. Carmel, St. Joseph and St. Stanislaus.
The Program Coordinator directs and supervises the delivery of all the identified services to Meriden non-public schools and also performs school social work.
The School Psychologist provides pre-referral interventions and psycho-educational evaluations when students are referred for academic, behavioral and/or emotional difficulties.
The Speech/Language Pathologists provide speech and language therapy for children with language, articulation, fluency and voice disorders.
School Social Workers facilitate the assessments of students experiencing academic and/or emotional difficulties impacting the school setting.
The Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) provide assistance to eligible students in acquiring appropriate social and academic English language skills, while maintaining their own cultural identity.
