Volunteering

The Downtown Meriden Farmers Market in 2014 will be building on the tremendous success of its first three years. As part of this effort, there are several opportunities that could be undertaken by one person or a small group of people. These projects would have definite start and end dates.

Volunteer(s) for one of the projects would meet with one or more of the Farmers Market Committee members and define the project as a subcommittee. The newer volunteers are encouraged to use their creativity, local knowledge and any friends or family to help with this! Once the scope of the project is decided along with any budget needs, the subcommittee would “run with the project”, reporting as necessary.

At this time, such “projects” include but are not limited to:

 Joining the work group

 Recruiting vendors

 Community Appreciation Day

Ethnic Day. This could be a Polish day or an Italian day, etc. Vendors would bring ethnic foods and crafts related to that group, such as the famous Polish carved dolls. Local groups with ethnic affiliations would be invited to take leadership roles. On Italian Day, for example, the Sons of Italy, North Italian Home Club, Mount Carmel Church, etc. could have booths at the market. Consistent with the CTGROWN concept, items should be grown, produced or packaged in CT. There is flexibility in this area.

Military Veterans Appreciation Day. In the past, we had four veterans groups with booths. Mid-morning there was a flag and remembrance ceremony for veterans both past and present with a special section for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
