The Max E. Muravnick Meriden Senior Citizens' Center is a 32,000 square foot air conditioned, handicapped accessible, municipal building located in downtown Meriden. The Center is a hub for activities and services for older people, and a visible symbol of Meriden’s concern about its older residents.
As a multipurpose senior center, it is a community facility in which older people can meet with one another to fulfill many of their social, physical, emotional and intellectual needs. It is also a focal point for services to older persons which can enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement with the community. Special Day for Special People
40th Annual Senior Outing - Saturday, June 12, 2010 - 11:00am-3:00pm - Hubbard Park, Meriden
A free picnic in the park for Meriden Senior Citizens and Nursing Home Residents.
Activities included Antique Veterans Flag Raising ceremony, Bingo (with prizes), Hot Dogs, Ice Cream, Watermelon and Popcorn. Musical entertainment was provided by Vinnie Carr. Hundreds of folks enjoyed a great day of food and fun in the park!

Membership - Meriden residents age 55 and over, and their spouses, are eligible for free membership. Proof of age, such as a driver’s license or birth certificate, is required at the time of registration.
Parking - Free parking is available in the Hanover Street Parking Lot across from the rear entrance to the Senior Center.
Senior Community Café 203.235.8052 - Good health and good nutrition go together! Meals are served Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. A contribution is requested.
Mini-Bus Transportation 203.237.3338 - Mini-Bus transportation is provided to the Senior Center, the Hispanic Elderly Nutrition Program, grocery shopping, medical appointments, convalescent home visiting, Social Security, City Hall and other needs. 24 hour advance notice is required. Please call before 2:00 p.m. Wheelchair lift service available. Meriden residents age 60 and over and disabled persons age 18-59 are eligible to use this free service.
Medical Transportation Transportation to out of town medical appointments is provided in cooperation with Master’s Manna (203-678-3011), RSVP of Central CT (860-224-7117) and Interfaith Volunteer Care Givers (203-230-8994). Partially funded by the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut. Contributions accepted, advance reservations required.
LaPlanche Clinic 203.237.0300 - Designed to enhance health care to Meriden’s elderly population, the Clinic provides health screenings, counseling, nutritional guidance, monthly seminars, and more. Staffed by an RN, the clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Appointments recommended. Sponsored by MidState Medical Center.
Meals-on-Wheels 203.238.7743 - Home delivered meals program five or seven days each week, 365 days per year. Fee charged, some subsidized meals are available. Therapeutic meals based on individual dietary needs.
Meriden Antique Veterans 203.634.0474 - Open to any honorably discharged veteran, the group meets each Thursday at the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. Members participate in parades, veterans' ceremonies and observances, and serve as honor guards at funerals.
Senior Computer Center - Equipped with 8 personal computers with 17" monitors, Internet connections, two network printers and related software. Computer classes offered for Meriden senior citizens in introduction to computers, introduction to the Internet and E-mail.
Social Worker 203.630.4222 or 203.630.4244 - Available at the Senior Center each Wednesday morning for consultations regarding personal problems, financial benefits, home care and medical claim forms. Home visits can be arranged. Regular office hours at the Meriden Division of Health, 165 Miller Street.
Recreation and Trips 203.237.0066 - Day trips and overnight excursions include trips to dinner theaters, Broadway shows and other destinations of interest throughout the northeast. Classes in knitting, sewing and crafts, acrylic painting, pen and ink drawing, physical fitness, aerobics, weight training, line dancing, Tai Chi/Chi Kung, yoga, powerful aging, sit down and tone up, chair dancing, ceramics, art, woodcarving and more are also offered. Pool tables, exercise bikes, puzzles, setback, Military Whist, and a big screen TV are available at the center.
Senior Center Newsletter 203.237.0066 - A monthly bulletin is printed on the first of each month listing the schedule of activities, classes and programs for the month, as well as the daily menu and information on a wide variety of senior benefits and entitlement programs. The newsletter also lists trip registration dates and destinations, evening dances, recreational programs and more. The weekly schedule of activities is also printed in the Meriden Record-Journal.

Rent Relief Program 203.237.0066 - The Rent Relief Program is sponsored by the State of Connecticut and provides eligible renters with money back on their annual rent and utilities, based on their income and expenses. To be eligible, renters must have been 65 or older by the end of the preceding year or be enrolled in Social Security Disability. Applications are filed at the Senior Center each year between May 15 and September 15.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program 203.639.8893 - RSVP recruits and places volunteers age 55 and over in meaningful volunteer opportunities in the community.

Advisory Board on Aging – Created by the Meriden City Council in May, 2006 “to advise and assist the Mayor and the City Council in the identification of the issues that affect Meriden’s aging population." Current members are Sr. Georgeann Vumbaco (Chairperson), John Varley (Vice Chairperson), John Clarke (Secretary), Peter Burch, Ana Gonzalez, Lillie Green, Donna Jones, Elizabeth Wieloch and Mary Zysk. Monthly meetings are open to the public and held at the Senior Center. Please call 237-0066 for the meeting dates and times.
